Inspiring me Lately

In 1913 Debussy was approached by the artist and writer André Hellé, who had devised a ballet scenario from his children’s tale La boîte à joujoux. A children's theme appealed to Debussy, who was devoted to his own young daughter, Emma-Claude (known as "Chouchou"), and had already written his suite Children's Corner for her. He composed the piano score, but the outbreak of the First World War caused the ballet to be postponed, and it was not staged until 1919, after the composer's death.

This article in N+1 magazine was great read. Anxiety inducing but also vindicating and empowering, Lipman runs through the overnight mass bloom of the retailer SHEIN, the origins of Zara and fast fashion practices worldwide. I include this in my “inspiring me lately” note because I rarely make clothing purchases from non-independent retailers. My last clothing purchase on April 1, 2024 was from depop, a white cotton nightgown. I made another online purchase this morning at Santa Maria Novella, for this terracotta pomegranate that makes a room smell great without pissing off Pascal and an “intimate” body wash.
