Naval, sunscreen, Chanel 1999, maybe long hair isn't for me right now, and Forte Forte
A fit body, a calm mind, a house full of love. These things cannot be bought—they must be earned. A small reminder from Naval Ravikant.
The only sunscreen I use now is Sunbetter Tone Smart. It keeps my skin acne free, looks better than a light coverage makeup and stays all day. If you heard me lauding Elta MD, no you didn’t. Biologique Recherche has a great sunscreen that is *illegal* in the US for FDA reasons. I’ve used Isdin before and enjoyed it. And obviously, like every Euro-curious girl I’ve used that famous gold-orange tube of Esthederm and had relaxed sunny days. Still, skinbetter science is the best.
(See footnotes.)
Something was in the water in 1998-1999, because nearly any show you research in this time period is a banger: original and remarkable. I covered Louis Vuitton here and Hermes here and Chloe here.
Take Chanel Spring 1999 for example: the tulle and low waistlines, the irregular, irreverent draping and the sparkles and beaten neutral tones. God save the iridescent skull caps!
My haircut returned. Sitting just below my ears. Impossibly chic. Very easy to style. Practically an accessory of its own.
To learn from my sister’s mistakes, I take a sincere amount of time between falling in love with a clothing item and purchasing it. This isn’t revolutionary, but it also isn’t common practice. I found the absolute perfect coat while shopping IRL at Forte Forte. I am now in the dreadful waiting period between who I am now and the magically changed, super remarkable person I will be sleeping in a leopard overcoat.
Not to be slept on is the candle I found in store. It seems like a collaboration between 4(?) brands(???) but the scent is for those homes with husbands-who-can’t-deal and newborn babies— delightfully mild and clean.
Footnotes: I know just last week I was reveling in the rays of Benzoyl Peroxide, so this is just to say, while it’s an incredible ingredient for clearing serious breakouts — it is not great for prolonged use. Currently, I have a 70/20/10 mix of products: 70 Biologique Recherche, 20 skinbetter science and 10 harsh fun chemicals. I am dangerously obsessed with finding hormonal acne solutions and this is a topical regimen that works for me.
